In The Department of Political Science (2012-13)
James Curry
(PhD U Maryland 2011). Professor Curry teaches courses on American political institutions,
including the Congress and the Presidency, and on leadership within the American political
context. His research interests primarily concern leadership and the legislative process
in the U.S. Congress. Professor Curry has published articles in Legislative Studies
Quarterly and Congress Reconsidered, is the 2012 Carl Albert Award recipient for best
doctoral dissertation in legislative studies, and the 2012 E.E. Schattschneider Award
recipient for best doctoral dissertation in American Politics.

Jill Curry
(PhD Candidate U Maryland 2012). Jill Curry will join the Department as a post-doctoral
fellow in January 2013. She teaches courses on research design and analysis and on
American political institutions, particularly the Presidency and Congress. Jill has
published in Presidential Studies Quarterly on presidential greatness and also has done research on alternative dispute resolution
in the federal courts as well as gubernatorial elections.

Sam Handlin
(PhD U California, Berkeley, 2011). Prior to joining the political science faculty,
Professor Handlin was a Visiting Fellow at the Kellogg Institute for International
Studies at the University of Notre Dame. His research and teaching interests are in
the comparative politics of developing countries, with a regional emphasis on Latin
America and a substantive focus on democracy, representation, electoral politics,
and the political economy of development. Professor Handlin's research has been published
or is forthcoming in the journals Comparative Political Studies and Latin American
Politics and Society. He is also the co-editor and co-author of Reorganizing Popular
Politics: Participation and the New Interest Regime in Latin America (Pennsylvania
State University Press, 2009).

Tobias Hofmann
(PhD Free University of Berlin, 2011). Professor Hofmann will join the Department
as an Assistant Professor in January 2013. Hofmann is currently a Visiting Fellow
in the Department of Political Science at the National University of Singapore. He
previously worked at the College of William & Mary, Princeton University, and Harvard
University. Hofmann studies the political economy of international institutions, with
a focus on multilateral and preferential trade agreements as well as European integration.
He is the author of articles in Comparative Political Studies, Journal of European Public Policy, and other journals.

Steven Johnston
(PhD Johns Hopkins University, 1993). Professor Johnston is the Neal A. Maxwell Chair
in Political Theory, Public Policy, and Public Service. He is the author of numerous
articles and two books, including The Truth about Patriotism (Duke University Press, 2007). Professor Johnston will soon publish his latest work,There Will be Blood: The Tragedy of Democratic Politics, followed by the release of the companion volume, Tragedy and International Politics. Professor Johnston's teaching is concentrated in the areas of Modern and Contemporary
Political Theory, Globalization and International Politics, Democratic Theory, and
Politics and Literature. Johnston also serves on the Editorial Board of the journal
Theory & Event.
