Two Letters of Recommendation
On the application, you will be asked to provide a name and email address of two references who have agreed to submit a confidential reference form or letter on your behalf. One reference must come from an academic. Your reference will be notified via email through the application process on how to submit their confidential reference form or letter.

FAFSA
While it is not a requirement for the application, the committee encourages all eligible applicants to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) so that you don't miss out on opportunities for a Pell Grant.

Political Science Department Scholarships currently offered: 

SCHOLARSHIP NAME: JOYCE GARCIA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Available to: Students in Political Science

Selection Criteria: Political Science Majors, with an emphasis on first generation students with financial need

Donor: This scholarship was established in memory of Joyce Garcia, who was a non-traditional, first-generation student in Political Science. Upon receiving her degree from the University of Utah in 1996, Joyce dedicated many years of service to the University as an employee in the Office of Budget & Institutional Analysis.

SCHOLARSHIP NAME: J. RALPH BROWN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Available to: Undergraduate or graduate students in Political Science

Selection Criteria: At the discretion of the selection committee

Donor: Lucille Brown in memory of her husband J. Ralph Brown.

SCHOLARSHIP NAME: J.D. WILLIAMS SCHOLARSHIP

Available to: Students in Political Science

Selection Criteria: At the discretion of the selection committee

Donor: The J.D. Williams Scholarship was established in honor of Professor J.D. Williams upon his retirement from the University of Utah. (Williams died in 2007 at the age of 81). "Dr. Williams was noted for his personal interactions with the students who came under his purview. "He loved his students and went out of his way to help them," said his wife, Barbara Wright Williams. Those who lagged behind in class were invited to personal sessions, where he mentored them individually to avoid having to fail them. "He had many grateful students," she said."

SCHOLARSHIP NAME: ELBERT D. THOMAS AWARD IN POLITICAL SCIENCE

Available to: Students in Political Science

Selection Criteria: An undergraduate student who makes a contribution by participating regularly in the activities of the department.

Donor: Established in honor of Elbert D. Thomas (1883-1953), a U.S. Senator from Utah (1933-1951).

SCHOLARSHIP NAME: THE B.F. FARR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN POLITICAL SCIENCE

Available to: Junior or senior students in Political Science

Selection Criteria: 3.0 GPA and financial need

Donor: This award was given by Nancy Farr Delgado and James B. Farr in memory of B.F. Farr.

SCHOLARSHIP NAME: JOSEPH ROSENBLATT FUND

Available to: Graduate students in Political Science

Selection Criteria: At the discretion of the selection committee for outstanding written paper

Donor: Joseph Rosenblatt (1903-1999).

SCHOLARSHIP NAME: RICHARD AND KELLY WHITLOCK ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP IN POLITICAL SCIENCE

Available to: Students in Political Science

Selection Criteria: At the discretion of the selection committee

Donor: The estate of Richard and Kelly Whitlock. Kelly was a graduate of the College of Social and Behavioral Science in 1971.
